What is Twilight Zone Magazine?

Twilight Zone Magazine (1981–1989) used Rod Serling's legendary television series as its launch point — but quickly established its own identity as a premier venue for original dark fiction. Each issue combined newly commissioned short stories from established and emerging genre authors with film criticism, interviews, and coverage of the horror and sci-fi entertainment world. It was a serious literary magazine for dark genre fiction, not a TV tie-in publication.

Was it just about the TV show?

Not at all. While it maintained a connection to the Twilight Zone brand, the magazine published original fiction across horror, science fiction, and dark fantasy from authors including Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, and Joyce Carol Oates. Genre fans who knew it only as a TV spin-off were consistently surprised by the caliber of its fiction and criticism.

Are vintage issues rare and hard to find?

Increasingly yes. The magazine ran for only about eight years, print runs were modest, and paper-based publications from the 1980s don't always survive in fine condition. Complete run collections are rare, and individual issues in very good or better condition require real effort to source — which is why you should grab them when you see them.
