Frequently Asked Questions
What types of retro audio gear does Keystone Crypt carry?
Our Retro Audio selection covers the full range of vintage personal and home audio equipment — boomboxes, Walkman-style portable cassette players, turntables and record players, portable radios, cassette tape decks, and related audio accessories. If it played music in an era before streaming, there's a good chance we carry it or will in the future.
Is retro audio gear tested before listing?
Yes — every item is tested for power and basic function before listing. For cassette players and boomboxes, we test playback and where applicable recording. For turntables, we verify the motor spins and the needle tracks. Any known issues — worn belts, missing stylus, cosmetic damage — are noted clearly in each listing.
Do boomboxes and portable players come with batteries or power adapters?
It varies by listing — each product description specifies what's included. Many vintage boomboxes and portables can run on both batteries and AC power; we note whether an adapter is included. We recommend verifying compatibility with your local voltage before use, particularly for international buyers.
What about cassette head condition on players and boomboxes?
We clean heads before testing, and head condition is noted in listings where it's a factor. Worn or oxidized heads affect playback quality significantly — if a unit has head wear we'll tell you. For best results with any used cassette player, a quick head-cleaning pass before extended use is always a good idea.
What condition are your items in?
All listings include individual condition descriptions covering both cosmetic and functional state. We grade honestly — from well-used pieces with character to near-mint units that look like they just left a display case. Any significant flaws are called out clearly.
How is retro audio gear packaged for shipping?
All items ship well-padded in appropriately sized boxes. Boomboxes and larger items receive extra cushioning and reinforcement. We pack as if it were our own gear going out the door.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes — Keystone Crypt ships worldwide. Rates are calculated at checkout. International buyers should note that most vintage audio gear in our inventory runs on North American voltage (120V/60Hz) and may require an adapter or converter.
