Frequently Asked Questions
What is Metal Maniacs magazine?
Metal Maniacs was dedicated to the heavier, darker, and more extreme end of the metal spectrum — covering thrash, death metal, black metal, and hardcore with the knowledge and passion those genres demand. While RIP and Metal Edge covered metal broadly, Metal Maniacs went deeper into the underground, covering bands and scenes that other publications either didn't know about or weren't willing to touch. It was required reading for serious metalheads throughout the 1990s.
What bands and genres were covered?
Coverage centered on extreme metal — Pantera, Sepultura, Dimebag Darrell, Death, Obituary, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, and the full roster of death metal and thrash acts that defined the underground. The magazine also covered black metal, doom, and the emerging extreme genres of the 1990s alongside established thrash acts who had crossed over to wider audiences.
Are vintage Metal Maniacs issues collectible?
Among fans of extreme metal, absolutely. The magazine's documentation of the death metal and black metal underground in real time makes it a primary historical source for those scenes, and issues featuring early or exclusive coverage of significant bands are particularly sought after by dedicated collectors who know what they're looking at.
