What is Circus magazine?

Circus (launched 1966) was one of the premier American rock music publications of its era, covering rock's evolution from the psychedelic 1960s through the hard rock and heavy metal explosion of the 1970s and into the glam and thrash metal years of the 1980s. At its peak it was one of the most widely read rock magazines in the country, with access to the biggest names in music before the internet age made such exclusivity unimaginable.

What bands and genres were covered?

Circus covered the full spectrum of rock — from Beatles-era pop through Led Zeppelin, KISS, Aerosmith, and Black Sabbath in the 1970s, then into Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne, Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, and the glam metal explosion of the 1980s. Later issues tracked the thrash metal movement and the grunge transition. If it was on a rock stage between 1966 and the early 1990s, Circus probably covered it.
